Mango is considered as the king of fruits even its called as Amrutfal in India. its the most famous fruit in summer season. Mangoes are so delicious and tempt us to eat as much as possible.Mango is one of the most delicious, nourishing and refreshing sweet juicy tropical fruits. The mango has been posthumously given the title ‘king of fruits’, and there are several reasons why, thanks to the slew of benefits that one can get from eating this fruit. Mango fruit and mango extract are known to many modern ladies as some of the most effective herbal remedies for weight loss.

There are various names to mango from which it is been identified in shape and taste, like, LANGADA, BADAMI, BANARSI, DAMIYA, KARANJIYA, SARDAR, SAFED, MALDA, NILAM, TOTAPURI, RUMALI, ALHONSO, PAYARI, etc.
As per medicine point of view the desi mango is more effective then others.
  • Eating mango during meals increases haemoglobin and RBC's in blood and even reduces the cough.
  • Eating  mango alongwith milk increases the weight. For people who are looking for weight gain options, mangoes are a good choice because of its high nutritional value. A 100 gms of mango have approximately 75 calories, so it is beneficial for people who desire to gain weight. Also, unripe mangoes have starch which converts into sugar when the fruit ripens. Therefore, ripe and sweet mangoes are very helpful in weight gain when consumed with milk (high in protein).
  • Alongwith honey, if mango is eaten can cure cough.
  • Taken with milk and Ghee reduces the problem of indgestion. Mangoes are very much beneficial for people suffering from acidity and its enzymes helps to relieve indigestion problems. Mangoes are very beneficial for those who suffer from indigestion problems. They contain special digestive enzymes such as esters, aldehydes and terpenes which considerably help in breaking down food and help in digestion. Also, it is a valuable fruit to combat acidity due to an enzyme present in the fruit which soothes the stomach. High amounts of fiber found in mangoes help to prevent the uncomfortable and ever-dreaded constipation. A decoction of the mango peel is also provided to individuals having inflammation of the stomach mucus membranes.
  • High level of soluble dietary fiber, Pectin and Vitamin C present in mangoes helps to lower serum cholesterol levels specifically Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL) Cholesterol.
  • The Vitamin E which is abundantly present in mangoes helps to regulate sex hormones and boosts sex drive.
  • Mangoes are useful to children who lack concentration in studies as it contains Glutamine acid which is good to boost memory and keep cells active.
  • Mango helps in clearing clogged pores that causes acne. Just slice the mango into very thin pieces and keep it on your face for 10 to 15 min and then take bath or wash your face. Use warm water for washing your face.
  • It’s a known fact that Mango is rich in Iron. People who suffer from anemia can regularly take mango along with their dinner. Generally women after menopause become weak and they should take mangoes and other fruits rich in iron. Pregnant ladies can also take mangoes occasionally as their body needs iron and calcium during that time.
  • Mango is slowly gaining new acclaim as diabetes fighter. Before going to bed put some 10 or 15 mango leaves in warm water and close it with lid. Next day morning filter the water and drink it in empty stomach. Do this regularly.

  • Giardia is a water-borne parasite that can infect humans and animals and cause severe diarrhea and other symptoms. A study conducted in Mexico to determine the effectiveness of 14 different plant extracts against giardia, found mango extract to demonstrate antigiardiasic properties.
  • Mangoes fruit to be effective in reducing the risk of kidney stone formation.
  • Compounds extracted from mango peels have potent anti-inflammatory capabilities.
  • Fresh mango is a very rich source of potassium. Potassium in an important component of cell and body fluids that helps controlling heart rate and blood pressure.
  • Raw mangoes are rich source of pectin. When unripe mangoes are steamed and juiced with cumin powder (jeera), sugar and rock salt, it provides a superb remedy for heat exhaustion and heat stroke in summer.

  • The amchur, a popular article of diet in Indian houses, consists of green mangoes skinned, stoned, cut into pieces and dried in the sun. 15 gm. of it is believed to be equivalent to 30 gm. of good lime on account of its citric content. It is valuable in the treatment of scurvy.
  • All bacterial invasions are due to poor epithelium the tissue that covers the external surface of the body. Liberal use of mangoes during the season contributes towards formation of healthy epithelium, thereby preventing frequent attacks of common infections such as colds rhinitis and sinusitis. This is attributable to high concentration of vitamin A in mangoes.
  • The mango bark is very efficacious in the treatment of diphtheria and other throat diseases. Its fluid is locally applied and also used as a gargle. The gargle is prepared by mixing 10 ml. of the fluid extract with 125 ml. of water.

Use of Mango in Unani Medicine.
  • Taking Mango regularly makes the complexion fair and the skin soft and shining.
  • Because of it's content in Vitamin C and Calcium the Mango tightens the capillary vessels and prevents oder cures bleedings of inner parts.
  • Burnt ashes of Mango leaves applied on the burnt parts give quick relief.
  • Feeding the powder of dried kernel of Mango seeds with fresh water cures the habit of eating soil in kinds.
  • Sun dried Mango leaves powdered, 2-3 x a day half a teaspoon with water.
  • Roast a ripe Mango on hot sand in a pan. Draw out the the juice of this Mango eliminates all the bronchial congestion and gives relief in cough. 
  • Paste of Mango roots applied on palms & soles cures fever.
  • Dried and powdered Mango leaves, 10g a day in water (kept overnight in a tumbler) helps throwing stones out.
  • In India a decoction of the mango peel is given to people with inflammation of the stomach mucus membranes.
    • Mango peel may be irritating to the skin since it contains urushiol, a substance that can cause an allergic skin reaction. 
    • Unripe mangoes should not be eaten in-excess. Their excessive intake may cause throat irritation, indigestion, dysentery and abdominal colic. One should, therefore, not consume more than one or two green mangoes daily.
    • Water should not be drunk immediately after eating the green mango because it coagulates the sap and makes it more irritant. Sap or milky juice which comes out on breaking the stalk of the green mango is irritant and astringent. Eating green mangoes without draining the sap may cause mouth, throat and gastro intestinal irritations. The sap should, therefore be fully squeezed out or the skin should be peeled before using raw mango.
    • Excessive use of mangoes produce ailments like constipation, eye affections, blood impurities and seasonal fever. Children who use the fruit in excess generally suffer from skin disease in its season.
